Positive Asbestos Test to Brand New Kitchen

Positive Asbestos: The client contacted us to report a water leak in their kitchen. We quickly scheduled an appointment to assess the damage and locate the source of the leak.

Upon our arrival, our leak detection team completed visual inspection of the property. The engineered hardwood flooring had swelled up around the kitchen sink.

When tested, the moisture meter profiling presented high moisture readings on the adjacent wall and within the flooring.

Further inspection was carried out through an endoscope survey to check the dishwasher. However, this indicated that no leaks were found.

With the approval of the client the kitchen plinth was removed, with a section of the kitchen unit, and an endoscope survey was completed, presenting the leak to be on the cold water feed.

The cold water feed was repaired to stop the leak and the affect areas were assessed to see what type of drying they would require.

In total the drying took approximately 2 to 3 weeks. However, it was recommended that the affect areas were tested for asbestos.

We took a sample of the affected area and sent it for analysis to check for traces of asbestos. When we received the report, it showed a positive result for Chrysotile in the floor tiles and bitumen. As a result, we arranged asbestos treatment to remove it from the property.

Following the work schedule we created, the client allowed us to reinstate their property with our trusted and vetted contractors. Following the work schedule we created, the client allowed us to reinstate their property with our trusted, vetted contractors. We collaborated closely with Howdens to recreate the original kitchen design before the damage occurred and provide our client with a new kitchen.

During the reinstatement period, we arranged alternative accommodation for the client to stay in while we completed the work. We do this to ensure that we do not disrupt their day-to-day living.
